Multi-Language Add-In for Visual Studio

Command Line Full Rescan

Hi,

We are evaluating this addin for vs .net and like it alot so thanks for all your hard work.

We have discovered that rebuilding a project doesnt rescan the project and rebuild the appropriate resources.

We run an automated build server and thus would like to know if there is a way of automatically performing a full rescan of our entire solution from the command line, so that we can include it in our build process.

If this is possible can you tell me how.

Thanks
Matt

Hi Matt,

I don't really see the purpose of doing a rescan during the build process. Can you explain what you expect to achieve?

Phil

Hi,

Thanks for the fast responce.
We have noticed that the language resources are not rebuilt on building a project, thus if we add, remove or lets say for examples sake, re-order a combo box items. Those changes wont be reflected in the other languages until a rescan is completed.

Now I could tell developers to simply rebuild it every time they make a localisable change and then check the new resources files back into our scc for the automated build server to then checkout and complete a release build. However that leaves the possibility of being forgotten, completed in error or inconsistently by a developer.

So I would rather it was automated and the build server does it, as i can control that process 100% and be sure its done exactly the same every time and nothing is missed, forgotten or completed incorrectly.

I hope this is clear/understandable as i think its an essential requirement and definately beneficial feature of any software utility that creates dependancies to a build process.

Thanks
Matt

any thoughts on this?

This only seems to make sense to me, if we are talking about fully automated translation, using either the Microsoft or the Google translator.

So if you add a new button, the Add-In could automatically generate localized resources in other languages.

Is that what you want?

I'm not sure how much sense that makes, because the quality of the online translations is not all that good. Still, if that is what you want, I will take a look at how easy it would be to implement.

Phil

It is, however as you suggest it may not be viable or make sense and as such we will do this manually and see how it goesfor a few day and if it works out well come back and make a purchase.
