Status of translations
In the latest version (4.65.0026), you may notice some new tooltips showing the status of each translation.
At present I have defined the following values:
- Original text
- Edited text
- From global database
- From spreadsheet import
- Online translation
- Imported localization
My main motivation for adding this feature is to identify online translations. Recently I added a button to the Translation Memory dialog to translate a single text using the Micorosft Translator. I would like to add a feature to translate all texts automatically (unless they are already translated), but this would clearly fill the grid with low quality translations.
I figure that there has to be a way to quickly identify which texts were translated automatically. A tooltip is probably not enough. At least optionally, I think that automatically translated texts should have a light red background (for danger).
Similarly, texts which have been imported from Excel could have a light green background, since they probably have the best quality. I would probably add an option to enable or disable coloured backgrounds, since they will most likely annoy some users!
These status values will also allow me to implement a restricted Excel export, in which those texts are excluded, which have already been imported from an Excel file. Alternatively, I could use the background colour of the Excel cells to indicate the status of the translation.
